Introducing GitHub Skills
Today, we’re announcing GitHub Skills, a new learning experience to help you throughout your GitHub journey.

No matter where we are on our GitHub journey, there’s always more to learn and explore on GitHub. If you’re new to GitHub, you want to find out how to get started. If you’re a seasoned GitHub user, you need to stay up-to-date with what’s new with GitHub’s rich platform. In the past, we’ve provided other avenues for expanding your knowledge of GitHub, like Learning Lab and explainer videos, but we believe the best place to learn GitHub is on GitHub.
Enter GitHub Skills. Backed by GitHub Actions, GitHub Skills meets you where you are and helps you develop new strengths, as well as make developing on GitHub even more efficient. As an example, if you want to set up a site for your open source project or create a personal blog, you can take the “GitHub Pages” course and publish your site in under an hour.
How it works
GitHub Skills is built with GitHub Actions for a smooth, fast, and customizable learning experience. We’re launching with courses for some of the most popular topics, from “Introduction to GitHub” to “Continuous integration.” You can also use our free, open source course template to build your own courses for your project, team, or company.
Since GitHub Skills runs on GitHub Actions, taking a GitHub Skills course is free in public repositories and on self-hosted runners. If you want to use GitHub Skills in a private repository, it’s free until you use up your account’s monthly free GitHub Actions minutes.
As part of this launch, Learning Lab will be deprecated on September 1, 2022. For the latest content and updated learning experience, we encourage you to transition to GitHub Skills now.
Try GitHub Skills today.
