The September 2025 update to Visual Studio brings game-changing Profiler and .NET Modernization agents, more powerful MCP interactions, and smarter code reviews.

Highlights

Here’s what’s new with GitHub Copilot in Visual Studio 2022 (v17.14):

  • Profiler Agent: Get started with Profiler Agent to find and fix performance issues more easily than ever before. @Profiler in Copilot Chat provides AI-powered analysis to highlight bottlenecks, suggest fixes, and optimize benchmarks in a guided loop.
  • .NET Modernization Agent: Upgrade your .NET projects to the latest versions and migrate them to Azure with the help of the .NET Modernization Agent. Right-click your project and select Modernize or prompt @Modernize directly in Copilot Chat to get started.

  • Agent mode improvements: Use agent mode more seamlessly thanks to faster response times, cleaner file management, and greater control. Agent mode is faster, smoother, and more stable with updates every month.

  • MCP prompts, resources, and sampling: Leverage more powerful and customizable model interactions with MCP prompts, contextual resources, and agentic sampling.

  • Mermaid diagrams: Visualize data structures and workflows by generating Mermaid diagrams with Copilot and clicking Preview to see the rendered diagrams directly in your Markdown editor.

  • Smarter code reviews: Access more powerful local code reviews with advanced reasoning, more insightful comments, and support for custom instructions.
