By adding custom instructions to your repository, you can guide Copilot on how to understand your project as well as how to build, test, and validate its changes. With these instructions, Copilot produces higher quality pull requests you can merge more quickly.

Copilot coding agent can now automatically generate custom instructions for your repository. The first time you ask Copilot to open a pull request in a given repository, it will leave a comment on the draft pull request with a link to generate custom instructions.

Copilot coding agent is available in public preview for all users with Copilot Pro or Copilot Pro+, as well as Copilot Business and Copilot Enterprise users where an administrator has enabled the relevant policy.
