We’re open sourcing Replica, an AI-powered prototyping tool created by GitHub Design that helps anyone on your product team turn ideas into interactive prototypes using your own design system.

Great product ideas can come from anywhere, but turning them into something tangible often takes time and specialized skills. Replica makes it easier for designers, product managers, and engineers to explore ideas together, get feedback earlier, and iterate without starting from scratch.

Unlike generic AI prototyping tools, Replica uses your team’s existing components, patterns, and documentation to guide what gets created. Designers define the guidance, while anyone on the team can use natural language in the GitHub Copilot app to create and refine prototypes that reflect how your product actually works.

What can you do with Replica?

  • Prototype with your design system: Use your existing components, patterns, and documentation to guide AI-generated prototypes.
  • Turn ideas into interactive experiences: Describe what you want to explore in natural language, then see, test, and refine the result alongside your Copilot conversation.
  • Collaborate and gather feedback: Publish prototypes to an optional, self-hosted Replica Hub where teammates can explore them and leave comments.
  • Adapt Replica to your team: Customize the open-source tooling and guidance to fit your product and workflows.

Replica helps teams move from conversations to tangible experiences faster, so they can test assumptions, explore possibilities, and make better-informed product decisions together.
