GitHub Copilot SWE, a new experimental model in GitHub Copilot, is now rolling out to Visual Studio Code Insiders as part of a technical preview.

Optimized for code-related tasks like editing, refactoring, and small code transformations, GitHub Copilot SWE is a task-focused model. It’s designed for working with GitHub Copilot inside VS Code. GitHub Copilot SWE can be used in any Chat Mode in VS Code. We recommend writing detailed prompts or using prompt files when using GitHub Copilot SWE.

Availability in GitHub Copilot

GitHub Copilot SWE will be available to all Copilot individual users through VS Code Insiders. Rollout will be gradual — ensure you have the latest version of VS Code Insiders installed and check back soon if you don’t see it yet.
