Grok Code Fast 1 will be available as an opt-in public preview for GitHub Copilot Pro, Pro+, Business, and Enterprise plans in Visual Studio Code.

Rollout will be gradual — check back soon if you don’t see it yet.

xAI models are also available in GitHub Copilot individual plans via Bring Your Own Key (BYOK), which lets you use your own xAI API key to access them.

Enabling access

For Copilot Business and Enterprise plans, an administrator must first enable the Grok Code Fast 1 policy in Copilot settings. Once enabled, it becomes visible in the Visual Studio Code model picker for all users in that organization.

For individual paid plans, enable Grok Code Fast 1 by selecting it in the Visual Studio Code model picker and confirming the one-time prompt.

To enable access via Bring Your Own Key (BYOK), select Manage Models from the model picker, choose xAI, enter your API key when prompted, and select Grok Code Fast 1.

Complimentary access (excluding BYOK) is available until 12 p.m. PDT on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. Regular pricing applies after that point. Editor’s note (September 2, 2025): We updated the date for when complimentary access ends.
