Beginning September 12, 2025, GitHub Copilot knowledge bases will be retired and fully replaced by Copilot Spaces. Copilot Spaces is the next-generation way to share context with Copilot, making it easier for you and your team to get higher quality answers grounded in documentation, code, and more.

Who’s impacted?

Anyone using Copilot knowledge bases to manage custom context for Copilot will be affected.

What’s changing and why?

Copilot Spaces brings a more flexible and powerful experience for managing custom context:

  • Anyone with a Copilot account can create Copilot Spaces. For Copilot Business and Enterprise accounts, admins will need to enable the preview policy. Learn how in our documentation.
  • Copilot Spaces can be kept private or shared with an organization, team, or other users.
  • You can add code, Markdown, JSON, images, file uploads, issues, pull requests, and more.
  • Spaces’ enhanced context management strategy improves response accuracy.
